Some say that social media is a powerful tool, whereas others will argue that social media is a toxic environment for them. Whether your perspectives on social media are good or bad, we are here to highlight some of the ways that it can be beneficial to you and your life.

1. Connect with Family and Friends

Social media is a great way to connect with your family and friends.

No matter where you are, it enables you to communicate and stay up to date with everyone all around the world. That means that you could be in Minneapolis, Minnesota and your family could be calling you from Beijing, China.

Social also makes it easier for people to find new friends and communities.

For example, Linkedin is one of the most used professional networking platforms. It allows you to reach out to recruiters and maintain relationships with them.

On Facebook, you are able to join a variety of Facebook groups where you can find people with similar interests as you. These groups can range from Subtle Asian Traits to Corgi Moms.

This is a great way to network with other people who share similar interests or ambitions!

2. Provides Emotional Support

Now, more than ever, it is easier to seek and find emotional support during your tough times.

Social media has made it easier for people to find the information, resources, and support that they need in order to become the best version of themselves.

It is often easier for people to share their life experiences when no one knows who they are. Social media gives people the choice to remain anonymous, thus, creating a more open and honest community where there is no judgement.

3. Raise Awareness

The #MeToo all started off with a simple hashtag that created a world-known phenomenon. It has encouraged both women and men to speak out about their sexual assault experiences.

This is the power of social media. It allows us to join or promote causes that are important to us and raise awareness on those important issues.

4. Creative Outlet

Do you like to draw? How about singing? Well, you’re in luck! Different social media platforms provide many outlets for you to be creative and express yourself.

If you’re too embarrassed to show your face, there are many artists who don’t show their face and yet, are still very successful. Social media is a great way to showcase your talents without having to showcase your face.

This is also a great opportunity to get outside of your comfort zone and to show the world your talents and gifts!

5. Unlimited Resources

There are many content creators on social media platforms that provide educational content, whether it be sex education, financial literacy, or life hack videos.

They all provide some form of resource or material for people to consume and learn from.
